My Qualifications
The proposed research builds on the researcher's undergraduate and graduate research on historic and ancient structures (see http://www.public.asu.edu/~aeevans1/webpage_2011.html). Furthermore, the researcher will utilize her training in geotechnical engineering, archaeology, soil micromorphology, and soil chemistry to understand how ancient builders used soils to construct earthen embankments.

Passion/Philosophy
I am fascinated by inner workings of earthen structures ̶ the unseen forces, the mechanical properties of soil, the impact of environment on stability. I am intrigued by ancient technologies, not constrained by modern practices, that utilized their own knowledge to address their challenges. I believe there is so much that we can learn from the past, from how our ancestors addressed the challenges that we similarly face today. By researching ancient technologies, such as earthwork construction, we can learn from thousands of years of experience. We just have to start looking!
Books I'm Reading
